As the story goes, Bowie was listening to a Neil Young record at home when he got the news of his son's birth and so the song is thought to be a pastiche of Young's early '70s music. True or not, it's a lovely and romantic tune that offers an unconventional primer on life lessons. Bonus factoid: the hand-tinted "Hunky Dory" album cover was influenced by a Marlene Dietrich photo book that Bowie took with him to the photo shoot. "Kooks" was featured on Monica's July 24th show on WFMU and can be purchased via iTunes and Amazon. | | - Don't miss New This Week, below. - Visit the Shout Out Archives. - Then visit our kooky Midtown showroom to see what else is new.
